Family pedigrees

“Autosomal recessive” pedigree This pedigree appears to demonstrate an autosomal recessive pattern of inheritance for 'local' hypoplastic amelogenesis imperfecta. It indicates a recessive traite because although both siblings in the III generation clinically show the disease (filled symbols) neither parent does so (open symbols). Therefore, both parents must be heterozygous, with one normal allele and one affected allele.
However, is there an alternative explanation?

The section cuts through a region of apparently normal enamel on the labial surface and through a hypoplastic region on the lingual side. Enamel in this region is approximately 50% of that found in control deciduous teeth
